On the shootings...

this post is later than I intended it to be, but I had to say something.

So, in case you’re grossly uninformed, a few weeks ago in at a school in Parkland, Florida, there was a shooting, leaving 17 dead, and more injured. following many others, this incident has incited a nationwide backlash on current gun laws, lead primarily (right now) by teens. There have been a lot of walkouts across the country in middle and high schools across the nation, including in my hometown.

Let me start with my own opinion. I think that the teens at the forefront of these protests are incredibly brave and inspiring. They are standing up for themselves and their peers. I think it is very important that kids feel safe in their schools. If the laws we have in place are making the children of our country feel unsafe, then those teens should be allowed to protest and make change. Actually, they should be allowed to protest and make change with any issue. It is not ok for children to be scared to go to school.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of the teens who lost their lives in the Parkland shooting, or any other shooting for that matter. I have had family who has survived shootings, and  their stories are some of the scariest I've heard. These walkouts are a great way to protest these issues. While it could get students in trouble, it feels like an appropriate way to make change. So thank you. These brave teens are our future, and I couldn't be prouder.
